Process 1655

I am currently studying Fine Art Creative Practice at UWE in Bristol. This year I am concentrating on the painting process.

Artists I have been looking at include John Hoyland, Richard Diebenkorn, John Virtue, Alessandro Papetti, Gerhard Richter and Hans Hofmann.

I am currently working on quite a large scale, typically 4' x 5' on either paper or stretched canvas using a variety of mediums, both traditional ink, oil and acrylic together with more industrial substances such as shellac, emulsion, bitumen and enamel.

As I am interested in the behaviour and interaction of each given medium in turn, including changes that occur during application and removal I end up with abstract images by default.

The results are both stimulating and intriguing, once a painting is started any following actions are driven by visual and tactile reactions and responses to drying properties that materialise in front of me.
