The Sussex Downs and surrounding area has been the focus for most of my creative output for the past couple of years. The gently undulating contours of chalk escarpments are evidence of the other world that existed when this area was under water. Nowadays the thin coating of soil is covered by a variety of plants that give the hills their characteristic hues. On the lesser slopes and in the valleys, cultivation and grazing shape the landscape and add a fresh and constantly changing palette.
