Painted by Henry Gauci in 2007, acrylic on canvas, original size 113 x 113 cm. Stargazer was originally a commission for a couple who had just acquired a loft apartment in the City Centre of Leeds. The brief was; something big, striking and with a splash of colour. Here is a brief history of the actual flower. The Stargazer lily was created in 1978 by Mr. Leslie Woodriff, a Lily breeder in California. It is an oriental hybrid lily which he called Stargazer because the blooms faced the sky. It is now fairly common throughout North America.
